It is no secret that I (Lani) love big wall climbing, it is such a magical way to experience our sport and the world. Climbing a big wall is also really freaking hard, takes a lot of grit, requires learning numerous technical systems, and a ton of different gear. The barrier to entry is high and I would like to make it slightly less intimidating. There are many women that climb big walls and they are starting to get more media attention. However, there are still drastically fewer women climbing big walls than the overall makeup of the general climbing community, and I would love to see that change.

What is this Scholarship for?

This scholarship is to cover the course costs ($995) to take one of our 4 day Aid and Big Wall courses Sept 3 - 6 in Index Washington*. More info about the Aid and Big Wall course can be found here:

Sadly we cannot cover travel costs at this time although it would be awesome to do this in the future with more funding! We will provide all aid and big wall related gear for the course. Inclusions and exclusions are the same as those listed on our big wall and aid climbing course page.

Who is this Scholarship for?

Women, non-binary and queergender climbers who are excited to venture into the world of big wall climbing! Students must have experience leading multi-pitch trad climbs before taking this course. It is recommended that students feel comfortable leading 5.9 trad. Feel free to reach out if you think this requirement might be an issue for you and we can chat about your experience and if this is the right course.

Please consider whether you would be able to pay for this course without this scholarship.

What is The Climbing School?

We are a very small Washington based guide service, 50% women owned, and focused on instructional courses, private guiding and international retreats! Lani will be your guide and instructor for this course. She is an AMGA certified Rock and Alpine guide and has a long resume of big wall climbing from El Cap in pretty much every style, to first ascents, and beyond.

Want to help support?

Currently I am donating my time to this. If you would like to contribute anything in the form of money or gear that would be amazing and would help make offering this opportunity more sustainable for me! Or if you know anyone or a gear company that would be stoked to sponsor this I would love to see this opportunity grow. Reach out! Another way you can always support this and us is by taking one of our courses or recommending us to a friend.
